I have been informed area 10, the Westport area of the Grays Harbor CBC had
a Snow Bunting. I have added it to the list, making 116 species seen on the
Jan 4th count.
Also, for those interested, I am seeing some pretty healthy numbers of
shorebirds out on the beach north of Ocean Shores. The largest numbers are
hanging out near the creek that empties onto the beach at the Quinault
Beach Resort, though with three peregrines and a merlin actively hunting,
they can be anywhere! Dunlins are the more dominant numbers, but lots of
Sanderlings mixed in, and Black-bellied Plovers too. The one immature
peregrine picked off and ate a plover, and did not like me watching. She
took her meal down the beach a ways, so I left her alone after determining
she was a banded bird, E/6. I had good views of her color band I.D. as she
was standing, unlike the normal "at rest" pose sitting down on her feet.
