Went birding down in the valley today looking for the Siberian Accentor my
husband saw. We started our day at home with Black Capped and Chestnut
Backed Chickadees, Red Breasted Nuthatch, Song Sparrows, Rufous Sided
Towhees, Oregon Juncos, Wood Duck, Mallards and Varied Thrush. Our search at
the business park started where he originally saw the Siberian Accentor and
saw that someone had scattered bird seed where he had originally parked.
Good move we thought, but saw nothing but a blond colored Red Tail passage
(imm) hawk. Nice looking bird. Since so much time has passed since he first
saw it, we widened our search to neighboring business parks. We saw an ad.
Bald Eagle, Canada Geese, Pied Billed Grebe, Mallards, Ruddy Ducks, American
Widgeon, Common Mergansers, Coots, Buffleheads, Robins, Starlings, Crows,
Pigeons, Marsh Hawk, numerous Red Tailed Hawks, a Double Crested Cormorant
in 1st year plumage, and Glaucous Winged Gulls. We saw nothing smaller than
a Robin all day until we left for the day, then a small group of birds flew
over us across 84th, as we were leaving the valley, just down the street
from the business park. Too late for us to check out.I really believe he saw
what he saw and would like it confirmed. I Think at this point it's like
looking for a needle in a haystack, the more birders we can get down there
the more chances we have of it being confirmed. National Geographic bird app
says one species of Accentors does visit the Pacific Northwest. Go for it
birders! Janna Rose-Kellogg
