> Recently Karen and I have enjoyed birding what we believe is an old gravel pit (?) now owned by King County. It is located just northwest of the intersection of 196th Avenue NE and NE 95th Street in Redmond. King County does not allow trespassing on this property, but there is a gravel area off 95th where you can park and easily observe one of the ponds formed by this pit without trespassing. You can also park on the shoulder of 196th and observe both ponds from afar. It is relatively quiet and we usually see a nice variety of birds while standing next to our car. A Greater Yellowlegs has been there consistently this summer. Three times we have seen an Osprey either sit or splash around in the pond. Today it appeared to be cooling itself. It would sit in the pond for awhile, then fly around and then return to sitting in the pond.

> The gravel parking area (actually a road into the area for county vehicles) is barricaded by a chain suspended between two large concrete blocks. Today a weasel emerged from under one of the blocks very close to us, returned to that block and then ran to the other block.

> We also observed close up two Dark-eyed Juncos eating blackberries, but unfortunately I was only able to get a photo after they were done. The white belly area was very striking.
