Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday August 7. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at

On August 1 a bright male ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK visited a feeder near
Langlois. A BREWER¹S SPARROW and a CLAY-COLORED SPARROW were found together
August 3 near the Royal Avenue parking area at Fern Ridge Reservoir.

A spectacular anchovy die-off in the Seaside area during the week attracted
thousands of gulls, including about 250 HEERMANN¹S GULLS, and other
fish-eating species.

On August 4 about 60 ELEGANT TERNS were at the mouth of the Rogue River.
Shorebird movements continue with most immature birds being reported,
including five SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS at Ridgefield NWR August 6. Passerine
movements are now underway including many WILSON¹S WARBLERS and BLACK-HEADED
GROSBEAKS. After being in very low numbers in western Oregon all spring PINE
SISKINS are now slowing increasing.

On August 5 a RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was east of Newport. An ASH-THROATED
FLYCATCHER was seen during the week at Oak Island on Sauvie Island and may
still be in the area. On August 1, 16 BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHERS were seen along
North Shore Road at Prineville Reservoir.

That¹s it for this week.
