Hey Tweets...first may I say what a wonderful group of volunteer field trip
and lecturers we had! You braved traffic leaving your cities, bright
sunshine and the usual off & on showers and wind, and what had to be the
strangest tides we have had in my memory, all to provide a great birding
experience to a record crowd attending our modest festival.

One common thread was early high tides thanks to heavy rains over the past
few weeks causing swollen rivers, coupled with a storm surge and westerly
winds pushing water into the back of the harbor. The result was two high
tides...with the first about an hour before the scheduled peak and a lot
more land being covered than "normal" forcing the birds to leave for a
while. Then as that water level receded, there was a second high tide
bringing the birds back for a close look.

If one was patient, and didn't mind getting a bit wet and cold, it was a
rewarding three hours! There were a lot of happy smiles reminding me how
rewarding it is to get to live in this neck of the woods and participate in
this amazing feat of nature.

Finally, thanks to all of you who attended this year making it such a
success. Your willingness to put yourself through a bit of chill and wet,
and sun and wind makes it all a true joy.

Until next year, the weekend of May 1st, 2015.
