Mary & I found a Parasitic Jaeger at Rimrock Lake, Yakima County late
Saturday morning, September 28, 2013.

Neither of us had ever seen a jaeger before. It is a light adult. It took
us a little while to settle on the identification. I digiscoped photos in
the wind & rain & posted one on my website and on Flickr.

There is a bit of what appears to be loose or shedding keratin on the top
of the upper mandible. The jaeger was noticeably smaller than California
Gulls, one of which harassed it. I'd thought the other way around more
likely.

We found it at the historic information pullout, about milepost 160.5 on
State Highway 12, where we also watched the beautiful adult Sabine's Gull
that Luke Safford found nearby a few days ago.

Mike & Alice "Tripod" Roper also took some photos posted here:

We're very glad we bagged a planned trip to Malheur, due to the lousy
weather forecast, but ignored the forecast to go look at the Sabine's Gull.

Good birding to you,
Kevin Lucas & Mary Giovanini
