[Tweeters] Downtown Ravens

Years ago someone gathered a seed from that strange fruit known as Los Angeles (AKA La-La Land), and planted it out in the Mohave desert. With the addition of much irrigation water, the seed grew into what we now know as Palm Springs California.

Driving in on I- 10 one may see an olympic-sized billboard advertising boob jobs, and might also note the nearby San Gorgonio windfarm - a huge ugly expanse of 3000 or so huge propellers. It's things like this that inform the traveler that they are nowhere near Puget Sound country.

Moving right along into town one can revel in the glories of palm-lined streets, and myriad shopping opportunities - the masses of well-to-do winter residents must have somewhere to shop after all. I've always thought that maybe Palm Springs was the only town in the United States, where one could, after waltzing out of a store wearing brand new

Gucci hats or shoes, or a nice Ralph Lauren outfit, possibly step in fresh Raven crap.

That's right shoppers, just look up and you might spot a Raven perched atop a nearby telephone pole, looking for action. Right on the main drag!

In my only two visits to this unusual place (headed to and from New Mexico) I spotted a number of Ravens right in downtown. ( this was Christmas time). I thought it was an interesting juxtaposition: Ravens and downtown shopping.

The reason for this is most likely the Oasis Syndrome: animals will put up with just about anything to get to some of that desert water. May as well go shopping while you're at it.
