Hi Yakkers,

There is a relatively small but enthusiastic group of listers who try to
get as many species as possible in every county in Washington. The first
goal is 100 in each county.

My son lives in Cedar Park, Texas, just north of Austin, so I check in on
Texbirds once in a while. Last week there was an e-mail congratulating a
woman who had just accomplished quite a goal for Texas - getting 100
species in 100 counties!

Counties in Texas are mostly smaller than in Washington. Travis County,
where Austin is, looks from the map to be just about average size for a
county in Texas at 1022 square miles. Walla Walla County, WA, is 1277 sq.
mi. Texas is, of course, larger than Washington but there are 254 counties.
What a paradise for county listers!
