Subject: [Tweeters] Reflections on Flight

I’ve just returned from a 5-week natural history journey (mostly birding) in Australia, flying non-stop from Sydney to Los Angeles, a distance of 7,487 miles, 14-hours in the air.
To me this was a totally exhausting flight; while in the air I reflected on the Bar-tailed Godwit, a 16-inch shorebird that flies a similar distance, also non-stop, from Alaska to New Zealand.
This amazing bird is in the air, no food, water, rest, for nine days!
