Hello all,
While Mike was teaching birding at Barn Beach reserve this morning I walked streets mostly north of the hwy. Came across a huge flock of BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS - 800+ birds - flying back and forth from treetops to a couple mountain ash trees. They covered the treetops for half a block. A friendly local told me about the hill behind the middle school so I hiked up there and had a PINE GROSBEAK perch and sing - had two more down on Cedar St. One Clark's Nutcracker flew in and perched for a few minutes. Enjoyed the many Pygmy Nuthatches and a few Red Crossbills. Mike had one Evening Grosbeak with his class. Drove a ways up Nahahum Canyon - Rough-legged Hawk was our best bird up there.
Stopped at Confluence SP and walked the trail - had one SNOW GOOSE and two CACKLING GEESE with the large flock of Canadas there. One Red-breasted Merganser in the river with the Buffleheads. One Purple Finch near the parking lot.
On the way up yesterday we had Sandhill Cranes at Scooteney and out of Othello.
It was a beautiful spring day, MerryLynn
