Yesterday, 06/29/2013, Michael Barry and I ventured out to Cape Flattery
and Neah Bay as well as Lake Ozette, all in Clallam County. Our best birds
were a Vesper Sparrow at Lake Ozette (Clallam County Code 3), plus possible
Sora and Nashville Warbler. At Neah Bay, we saw 50+ Heermann's Gulls, a
lone Brown Pelican, Red-necked Grebe and many of the more "expected" gulls,
alcids, ducks (including Greater Scaup, White-winged & Surf Scoters),
cormorants, etc.At Cape Flattery we saw thousands of Common Murres,
hundreds of Sooty Shearwaters, Pigeon Guillemots, Marbled Murrelets,
Rhinoceros Auklets, probable Cassin's Auklet, Pelagic & Brandt's
Cormorants, Black Oystercatchers, Heermann's, California, Glaucous-winged,
Western Gulls, etc., looking out from the observation platform toward
Tatoosh Island. I managed a few shots of the Tufted Puffins, and as was the
case that Hank mentioned earlier in his post, folks were thrilled to see it
"close-up" through our spotting scopes. Same went for the Stellar's Sea
Lions on the rocks near the island.
