Trying to beat the rain band moving up from Tacoma, I got only as far as
the Larsen Lake produce stand from my start point at Phantom Lake when this
morning's 18 minute burst of rain hit. Most conveniently, this is a good
place to sit out a rain shower, especially since it has a nice comfy porch
swing on the north side overlooking the blueberry fields and Larsen Lake.
And in fact those 18 minutes parked there produced this morning's best birds
including two flyover Black Swifts and a Ring-billed Gull. Any black
wing-tipped gull is a nice find for a change from the usual Glaucous-winged now
and then and this morning's Ring-billed was the first I've seen in the LHG
since March (3/23). It was nice to see Black Swifts again (previously 2
at Phantom Lake on 6/22) or even at all this month over the LHG since due to
work related travel out of State (mid-May to mid-Jun) I figured I had
likely missed what I might have guessed was probably the prime time window of
opportunity for Black Swifts at this lowland Bellevue location. No
re-sights (sight or sound) btw for the Red-eyed Vireo at either location along the
LHG loop. Obviously not reliable at any one spot and could turn up again
anywhere or never again I suppose.
