Dear Tweeters,

Bob Kuntz, Kraig Kemper and I had rather slow day of birding in the Upper Skagit, but with a few fun birds nonetheless. This was today, 30 July 2013. Highlights included:

Red-naped Sapsucker, a pair at Rainy Pass (Chelan County side);

Clark's Nutcracker, heard at Washington Pass;

Grey Jay, heard at Hardy Burn;

Red-eyed Vireo, one seen singing at Newhalem Ag Ponds;

Cassin's Finch, three at Hardy Burn and four at Rainy Pass.

Despite an early start, at several of the spots we visited today, we identified fewer than five species. Doornail comparisons were made.

Yours truly,

Gary Bletsch
