Below are links to two photos of the LITTLE Bunting found by Alan
Contreras and me this afternoon in Joseph, Wallowa County. We plan to
search for it again first thing tomorrow morning (weather permitting)
and hope to get some better shots.

Happy birding!

Subject: [obol] LITTLE BUNTING followup
Craig Tumer and I were finishing up a good day's birding in Wallowa County
and decided to take a second pass at two feeders that had been full of
in the morning. They were much less full so we crept down College
Street in
eastern Joseph, which often has feeders. We stopped at a small feeder that
had a few birds at 100 S College St. and (NE corner of College and Wm.
Williams). I looked at the juncos etc and then up into the tree, at which
point I said something like "What is that? It looks like a Little
Craig also looked at it and thought it was a Little Bunting, so he got out
to get some photos while I tried to park the car.

This is when the comedy began. Both streets had been carless there
is two
inches of snow on the ground and more falling but suddenly there
were four
cars coming, trying to get through where Craig was standing in the
road. At
the same time, a DEER walked right into the intersection and showed no
of leaving. All the drivers were trying to sort this out, and by the
time I
got parked, the bird had flown, but Craig had three identifiable
photos. He
will post them soon.

And yes, it IS a Little Bunting. I think this is the third record south of
Alaska and the first interior record, though I have done no research on it

If you plan to come up here, note the forecast. Heavy snow currently

The deer survived.
