Hello, tweets.

This afternoon (10 Feb) Netta Smith and I saw and photographed a male Rusty Blackbird in the big flock of Brewer's and cowbirds at the corner of Pioneer Way (hwy 530) and NE 7th Ave. in Snohomish Co. For the people who we talked to there (who hopefully read tweeters), this was the very brown bird perched near the utility pole next to a female cowbird.

There was another bird farther down the wires that had a lot of brownish edgings around the head and a faintly indicated face pattern, very much like some Rusties that have had much of their feather edging warn off in spring. This bird had wings with a greenish iridescence, much like Brewer's, and may well have been a Brewer's, although it looked much like the bird called a Rusty in a photo linked to by one person who posted on tweeters.

We were so lucky to have perfect light, with the afternoon sun behind us and the birds literally glowing on the wires, sunlit against a gray sky.

It was a great day to be out, nicely complementing the previous day when we enjoyed great views and photo ops of Brambling, Red-flanked Bluetail and Gyrfalcon in the Vancouver area.
