Friday I birded the Westport area at high tide (Bottle Beach to
Tokeland) and then spent Saturday morning looking around Ocean Shores.
The most unusual sighting was a GREAT HORNED OWL perched on top of a
fishing vessel in the Westport Marina. The local crows were not
amused but the owl refused to move (at least for as long as I was
there). I shared the sighting with several people who were crabbing
from the pier and one individual remarked that the "Night Watchman was
up". Also at the marina I observed a GLAUCOUS GULL resting on one of
the piers with quite a few other gulls and three ROCK SANDPIPERS on
pilings near the rock outcropping of the jetty. At Damon Point in
Ocean Shores I looked for the Palm Warblers but came up empty.

A few birds noted on the trip included:

BLACK TURNSTONE - 25 at Brown Point Jetty - Ocean Shores
SURFBIRD - 12 at Brown Point Jetty - Ocean Shores
ROCK SANDPIPER - 3 at Westport Marina and 5 at Brown Point Jetty
WESTERN SANDPIPER - 4 at Grayland Beach State Park (among Sanderlings & Dunlin)
WILSON'S SNIPE - Bottle Beach State Park & Midway Beach
GLAUCOUS GULL - Westport Marina
EURASIAN COLLARED DOVE - at several spots around Ocean Shores
GREAT HORNED OWL - Westport Marina
MERLIN - Johns River Wildlife Area
PEREGRINE FALCON - 1 at Bottle Beach State Park & 2 at Hoquiam Sewage Ponds
WESTERN MEADOWLARK - 1 at Westhaven State Park
PURPLE FINCH - Bottle Beach State Park
RED CROSSBILL - Bill's Spit - Ocean Shores

Cheers and Good Birding;
