[Tweeters] Fill today

Hey tweets, they say one swallow does not a spring make, but the BARN
SWALLOW ebbing and flowing in the ocean of air above the Lagoon at the
Fill today belied that old chestnut. At least, so it seemed to me,
warmed by the sun as I was, and cheered by the blue sky and billowing
white clouds. The birds know spring is here, or close by. The dabbling
ducks are already paired up, the Canada Geese are starting to get
ornery, goldfinches are just beginning to gild, and the Song Sparrows
are putting the finishing touches on this year's symphony.

Also on view today: 15 CACKLING GEESE circled Hunn Meadow West several
times before landing to graze. Three River Otters were playing in the
surf of Water Lily Cove, or what passes for surf in such a small body
of water. The Wilson's Snipes are in beautiful breeding plumage, as
are the Wood Ducks. Two female Downy Woodpeckers have been fighting
over a single male, who refuses to choose between them. I think he
enjoys the show.

It was all glorious. If I were a maple tree, my sap would be rising. -
