[Tweeters] Is your scope insured?

Four years ago we birded Black River and Coulon with dinner at Ivor's. We stopped at Fry’s on our way home for about 10 minutes to check on a Christmas present for a grandson. We came out to find our car stolen with a scope, binoculars and cameras out of sight in the trunk. It was found a couple of days later in the Fred Meyer parking lot minus all our gear. The police told us they believed the thrives were looking for Christmas presents to steal and they probably took another car from the Fred Meyer lot for the same reason.

Our car had full coverage but it did not cover theft off contents. Our home owners only covered items stolen from the car if it is parked on or near our property. Hard to make that claim when the police report states it was stolon from the Fry’s parking lot.

Good news, we got our car back and added a starter relay lockout to the alarm system.

Bad news, we lost about $4000 of gear.

Check the fine print of your policies and make changes if necessary.

For less than $13/year I added our fairly expensive scope to our homeowners policy. All it took was calling our agent and having the serial number for each part of the scope. No deductible applies and it is covered even if stolen from our car. I don't know about renter's policies.
