[Tweeters] North Jetty, O.Shores

Hey Tweets...In an attempt to find an Elegant Tern in Grays Harbor County,
I spent a few hours today at the jetty, the sewage lagoons, the beach
accesses, and across the street from the Shilo Inn (the roof is a real
gull-magnet so I had to look). One possible sighting of one bird out over
the channel just south of the jetty had me hoping; it was a small tern, but
it could just as easily have been a Common Tern...I didn't have anything to
compare it to, and I don't take my scope out on those rocks.

What I did see was a lot of Surfbirds flying up and down the length of the
jetty, on the channel side; by a lot I mean in the 50-75 bird range. I also
flushed a pair of Wandering Tattlers when I first clambered over the rocks
to pick a likely spot to watch. Sooty Shearwaters are in full swing, as are
the Brown Pelicans. I enjoyed the chance to sit and do nothing but watch
the sea and the birds & seals. Then the fog came in and shut down the
watching.

If anyone from the WFO/WOS fieldtrips to Ocean Shores saw an Elegant Tern,
will you please e-mail me so I can brag about a sighting in Grays Harbor
county? Matt Bartles likes those sightings, and Brad Waggoner too.

Thanks!
Dianna Moore
