Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday August 8. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at
On August 2 a SCISSOR-TAILED FLYCATCHER was seen at Thief Valley Reservoir
south of LaGrande. An adult male ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK feeding a fledgling
was near Toledo August 2.
Movements of migrant song birds were conspicuous during the week, although
shorebirds continue to involve the most reports. RED-SHOULDERED HAWKS were
reported during the week from many areas of southern Oregon, especially east
of the Cascades.
Spawning anchovies are now coming close to shore and into estuaries
attracting large flocks of fish-eating birds. Among the swarm at Tierra del
Mar August 3 was a juvenile FRANKLIN¹S GULL.
On August 4 six ELEGANT TERNS were at Brookings. Two LONG-BILLED CURLEWS
were at Bandon August 6. On August 1 two WILLETS were at Tillamook Bay.
At the Sandy River Delta near Troutdale August 1 was an ASH-THROATED
FLYCATCHER. Among a swarm of swallows August 4 near the Troutdale Airport
were over 40 BANK SWALLOWS. Nine WHITE PELICANS passed over southwest
Portland August 4. At Baskett Slough NWR August 4 were 11 WHITE PELICANS,
seven BLACK-NECKED STILTS, and a SOLITARY SANDPIPER. A PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVER
in breeding plumage was at Fern Ridge Reservoir August 1.
At Wickiup Reservoir south of Bend August 3 were 350 WHITE PELICANS.
SOLITARY SANDPIPERS were seen during the week at Tumalo Reservoir west of
Bend, at Hatfield Lake east of Bend, and at Ladd Marsh SWA near LaGrande.
