Today I escaped from the cellar of the Anchor Pub just in time to hear my first Caspian Tern of the year. I was thinking it was a bit early, but checking my records found that I saw seven here on the waterfront on April 4th last year. It will be interesting to see what happens with the nesting terns this year- the building they all nested on still stands (and I guess will continue to) surrounded by 'Desolation Row'- the giant Kimberly-clark mill now reduced to rubble.

As Jeremy Davis pointed out on 3/28, the Osprey's are also back in Everett, and I saw two on the next day. My notes of the past three years, at least, have them showing up consistently during the first week of April.

Just two blocks south of the Anchor, at the Forgotten Crk. trail, the wood understory is full of magenta Salmonberry flowers, and I saw some blooming Trilliums, and heard Pine Siskins calling up in the trees. Yesterday it was great to see a Mourning Cloak butterfly. Male Anna's hummingbirds ringing their bell's over blooming currants.
