[SZ4D] Brief Updates: what's going on with SZ4D!

*Dear SZ4D Community, please read below brief updates on SZ4D*

The SZ4D (Subduction Zone in Four Dimensions) initiative aims to understand
the fundamental processes underlying some of the most destructive
geohazards on the planet. SZ4D committees have been busy writing reports
<https://www.sz4d.org/projects-3>, holding community townhalls
<https://www.sz4d.org/past> and workshops <https://www.sz4d.org/news-events>,
speaking with colleagues, listening to the community, and crafting a plan
to transform our science.
There is a lot going on.

We are pleased to announce that starting in May 2022, SZ4D will be
launching a regular e-newsletter to keep everyone up to date. Highlights of
the first newsletter will include:

   - A report about the SZ4D-Chile Geological Society Collaborative Workshop
   <https://www.sz4d.org/chilean-scientific-community-workshop>. This
   workshop will be held May 9-11 in the vicinity of Santiago, Chile with
   approximately 70 Chilean registrants to discuss how we can make progress
   together.
   - An open call for volunteers for SZ4D. This is your chance to get
   involved! We will be seeking new members for the SZ4D Steering Committee,
   Collective Impact Planning Committee, Facility Committee and other
   functions of SZ4D. These committees will be making key strategic decisions
   on proposals and plan starting in Fall 2022.
   - A roadmap for upcoming meetings <https://www.sz4d.org/news-events>,
   including a planned community meeting for Fall 2022.

Feel free to suggest other topics that you would like to hear about (or
write about!) in this and future newsletters.
