<p class="x_MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:"Cambria",serif">The Northwest Climate Resilience Collaborative (NCRC) seeks a graduate student (Ph.D. and Master’s) to support their 7-week community engagement project with the community-based organization,
CAFÉ Wenatchee (CAFÉ). The selected individual will receive a stipend for their learning and training opportunity (see below). </span></p>

<li class="x_MsoNormal" style=""><span style="font-family:"Cambria",serif">Gain experience in teaching content related to climate change and environmental justice.</span></li><li class="x_MsoNormal" style=""><span style="font-family:"Cambria",serif">Gain hands-on experience engaging with a community-based nonprofit and community members.</span></li><li class="x_MsoNormal" style=""><span style="font-family:"Cambria",serif">Learn how to take large, theoretical concepts and make them relatable to a general audience.</span></li><li class="x_MsoNormal" style=""><span style="font-family:"Cambria",serif">Learn about how climate change impacts rural communities in eastern Washington.</span></li></ul>
<p class="x_MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:"Cambria",serif"> </span></p>
<p class="x_MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:"Cambria",serif">The grad student will facilitate online learning sessions and adult education programming on the topics of climate change, wildfires, air pollution, and environmental justice. With the use of
personal air quality (AQ) sensors, course participants will engage in AQ monitoring. </span></p>
<p class="x_MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:"Cambria",serif"> </span></p>
<p class="x_MsoNormal"><b><span style="font-family:"Cambria",serif">Time commitment is approximately 40-hours over 8 weeks and includes the following: </span></b><span style="font-family:"Cambria",serif"></span></p>

<li class="x_MsoNormal" style=""><span style="font-family:"Cambria",serif">Online teaching and facilitation: 45-50 minutes per week for 7-weeks.</span></li><li class="x_MsoNormal" style=""><span style="font-family:"Cambria",serif">Preparation for each class: approximately 2 hours per week. </span></li><li class="x_MsoNormal" style=""><span style="font-family:"Cambria",serif">Collection and organization of survey materials: approximately 4-hours. </span></li></ul>

<p class="x_MsoNormal"><b><span style="font-family:"Cambria",serif">The prospective graduate student will:</span></b><span style="font-family:"Cambria",serif"></span></p>

<li class="x_MsoNormal" style=""><span style="font-family:"Cambria",serif">Have general knowledge about climate change and its impacts on eastern Washington. </span></li><li class="x_MsoNormal" style=""><span style="font-family:"Cambria",serif">Have knowledge of environmental justice (EJ) theory and understanding of EJ considerations for rural communities. </span></li><li class="x_MsoNormal" style=""><span style="font-family:"Cambria",serif">Be bilingual in Spanish and English</span></li><li class="x_MsoNormal" style=""><span style="font-family:"Cambria",serif">Have knowledge of eastern Washington and climate impacts on rural communities. </span></li></ul>

<p class="x_MsoNormal"><b><span style="font-family:"Cambria",serif">About the NCRC</span></b><span style="font-family:"Cambria",serif"></span></p>
<p class="x_MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:"Cambria",serif">The NCRC assists Tribes and frontline communities in improving their resilience to climate change. CAFÉ is a non-profit organization that advances family and community growth through education
and serves a culturally diverse community in eastern Washington primarily in the Wenatchee and Yakima areas.</span></p>

<p class="x_MsoNormal"><b><span style="font-family:"Cambria",serif">About course participants </span></b><span style="font-family:"Cambria",serif"></span></p>
<p class="x_MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:"Cambria",serif">The CAFÉ Steering Committee cohort will be centered around educating community participants about climate change, wildfires and smoke, indoor and outdoor air pollution, and environmental justice.
The cohort is made up of community members from both Wenatchee county and Yakima county and varies in ages from high school students to older adults. Participants in this cohort come from various educational backgrounds so the prospective graduate student
should be comfortable with discussing climate change, environmental justice, or air pollution with those who have entry-level background knowledge of those topics. </span></p>
<p class="x_MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:"Cambria",serif"> </span></p>
<p class="x_MsoNormal"><b><span style="font-family:"Cambria",serif">Stipend </span></b><span style="font-family:"Cambria",serif"></span></p>
<p class="x_MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:"Cambria",serif">The selected graduate student will receive a stipend of $500 every 2-weeks, based on UW’s payroll calendar, totaling $2,000 for the 8-weeks. Stipend payments are a non-compensatory payment to
defray living expenses during the period of this UW program. </span></p>
