Seeking book research assistant – ancient flood stories and sea level rise

I am seeking a dogged, creative, and exceptional researcher to help me with
a high-impact book project about past and future sea level rise, told
through science and ancient stories. A major publisher has purchased
rights. Part-time contract work is needed asap through the end of the year
at $50/hour, 40-240 hours expected (depending on the number of assistants
engaged). Candidates should have or be pursuing a graduate degree in
relevant sciences or humanities, including environmental sciences,
environmental history, folklore, mythology, ethnography, anthropology,
and/or religion. Or the equivalent.

A key area of help I need is in finding and compiling indigenous flood
stories from around the world that may echo the great rise in sea level
after the most recent ice age. Sources range from centuries-old records to
contemporary oral traditions. Spanish or German fluency a plus.

The assistant should also be able to help with focused scientific
literature research (another key area), news archive research,
fact-checking, miscellaneous other research, and bibliographic support.

Candidates should have their own direct access to a major academic digital
research library.

As a recommender or candidate, please send the candidate’s name, a few
sentences about qualifications or interest, and a CV or equivalent, to
bstrauss at climatecentral.org with the subject line “Ancient stories
research.”
