Youth Restoration Training Crew - Crew Lead

Job Description

POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Crew Lead assists the Environmental Program Manager with day-to-day management of the Youth Restoration Training Crew. The Youth Restoration Training Crew provides paid training for youth (aged 16-24) in restoration techniques, job skills, and environmental education, while completing environmental restoration work in South King County Parks

Responsibilities
* Works on restoration projects alongside youth crew members under the leadership of the Environmental Program Manager.
* Supports the Environmental Program Manager in managing the youth crew.
* Supervises 5-13 person crew independently for periods of the day.
* Helps to keep crew members on task and following expectations.
* Answers crew member questions about how to complete restoration work.
* Checks to make sure that restoration work is being completed thoroughly and following best management practices.
* Develops and maintains positive relationships with youth crew members.
* Additional opportunities to help activities coordinator in providing environmental education if interested.
* Opportunities to help direct restoration work as appropriate.
* Tool maintenance.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
* Experience supervising and working positively with youth, aged 16-24. Comfortable with behavior management for this age group.
* Ability to model jobs skills, professionalism, and good working behavior for youth.
* Knowledge of, and experience with, common restoration techniques and best management practices. Includes: plant installation, ivy removal, blackberry removal
* Access to a personal vehicle, and ability to transport some crew tools.
* Willingness to maintain a positive attitude.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
* Experience working with immigrant, refugee and BIPOC communities.
* Knowledge of common Pacific Northwest native and invasive plants - ability to recognize and name.
* Comfort safely using hand tools and working outdoors in all conditions.

Position Reports to: Environmental Program Manager

POSITION STATUS: full time, 40 hours a week

POSITION RATE: $25 Hourly
