Hi Becky and Miriam,

Please share this with any postdocs or grad students who might be
interested. My friend Julie is in Seattle for the next couple weeks and
hoping to meet with any postdocs or grad students who are curious about
this new faculty position opening. It’s at the intersection of climate and
CS at Harvey Mudd. Or anyone curious about teaching/research at a liberal
arts college in general. Julie’s email and contact are below.

Heather

Hi Heather!

Harvey Mudd College (in Claremont, CA) has an opening for an assistant
professor to start in Fall 2023. This position will be a joint
appointment between the CS department and our newly-formed Hixon
Center for Climate and the Environment. We are looking for candidates
from all areas of climate and environmental studies who can provide
curricular and research opportunities for students with a computer
science background.

I expect that the job ad will be posted around August 1, but I'm in
Seattle for the next two weeks and would love to set up a time to talk
with folks who might be curious about faculty positions at a liberal
arts college of science and engineering. Would you help me connect
with grad students and/or post docs in Seattle who might be
interested?

I'm very excited about this position; with a required core curriculum
that included chemistry, physics, engineering, math, biology, CS, and
a minor in a humanity or social science field, our undergrads are
incredibly well-suited to understand climate change from an
interdisciplinary perspective, and there's a huge appetite for
relevant courses. We're expecting to bring proposals for two new joint
majors, including one in CS and climate science, to the full faculty
for a vote this year.

I will be in Seattle through August 9, though the week of July 25 is
more flexible for me. Folks who might be interested in being part of
our new program in cllimate sciene and CS, or who are interested in
teaching at liberal arts colleges in general, can reach me at
jmedero at hmc.edu .

Thanks so much!
Julie
