[pccgrads] Ecostation Discussion Thursday Oct. 1 at 2pm

UW PCC uwpcc at u.washington.edu
Tue Sep 29 10:02:58 PDT 2015

Neil Davies from the University of California Berkeley and Billie Swalla from the University of Washington will be leading a discussion on the development of an ecostation in Moorea, French Polynesia. The goal is for the ecostation to be a “ridge to reef” observatory from Moorea's watershed (hydrology) out to instruments on the coral reef, such as those managed by the NSF Moorea Coral Reef LTER <http://mcr.lternet.edu/> and the French research station CRIOBE <http://criobe.pf/> The attached article provides some background information for the discussion on Thursday. This is an interdisciplinary project which seeks to collect a wide range of genomic, ecological and environmental data both on land and in the ocean. Comparison of the high island of Moorea with the nearby private atoll of Tetiaroa <http://tetiaroasociety.org/> will also be discussed.

Neil Davies is Director of the R.B Gump South Pacific Research Station <http://www.moorea.berkeley.edu/>
Billie Swalla is the Director of Friday Harbor Laboratories <http://depts.washington.edu/fhl/>

Date: October 1, 2015
Time: 2 to 4 pm
Location: Meeting Room in the Data Science Studio, 6th Floor of the Physics Astronomy Tower
