The IGERT Program on Ocean Change Winter Seminar Series opens on Tuesday,
January 27, 2015, with speaker Maxine Burkett. Professor Burkett is an
Associate Professor of Law at the University of Hawaii. She is an expert in
the law and policy of climate change, and has presented her research on
diverse areas of climate law throughout the United States, and in West
Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Caribbean. From 2009-2012, she served as the
inaugural Director of the Center for Island Climate Adaptation and Policy
(ICAP). She attended Williams College and Exeter College in Oxford
University, and received her law degree from Boalt Hall School of Law at
the University of California, Berkeley. In 2010, Burkett served as the
youngest recipient of the Wayne Morse Chair of Law and Politics at the
Wayne Morse Center, University of Oregon.

She will be giving her talk entitled "Climate-Induced Migration: Defining
the Problem, Identifying Solutions" from 4:30 - 5:30 at Fisheries 102. A
reception with food and beverages will follow.
