Title: From oceans to cities: Creating and understanding demand for climate information to enable adaptation

Abstract: This session will focus on ways to create – and understand – demand for climate information. How do we generate interest in climate information, and tailor it to get traction? How does this differ depending on the audience? We’ll also talk about how to work across silos, by fostering collaboration between climate scientists and other scientists, and between information providers and information users. Examples include working with health care professionals in Washington State to address heat waves and harmful algal blooms that could affect human health; on a vulnerability assessment in the Aleutian and Bering Sea islands that focuses on marine ecosystems and resource-dependent communities and share an example of a decision support tool that has helped urban planners in Vietnam to understand and act on climate information to reduce risks to infrastructure and people.
