Seeking Peer Facilitators to Work with UW Program on the Environment and International Educational Outreach, August 2014
We are currently recruiting a few more Peer Facilitators to work with UW Program on the Environment and International Educational Outreach to implement a course in August 2014. The course, "Humans and the Environment in the Pacific Northwest," introduces about 35 visiting undergraduate students from Keio University in Japan to six topics ranging from forest ecology, water quality, and waste to green building, restoration ecology and urban food sustainability. Six Peer Facilitators will assist in leading activities (including field trips to places like Mt. Rainier and the Bullitt Center and activities like hiking and canoeing) as well as in mentoring Japanese students on topic-based research projects.
To be eligible, potential Peer Facilitators should be current or recently graduated students (from any major at UW or other institutions) and available at least half-time (between 9am-5pm on weekdays, and for one overnight field trip August 4th-6th) during the course period, August 4th-22nd, 2014. Benefits are many, including individualized mentoring and teaching practice; resume-building experience in teaching, environmental issues, and project management; the opportunity to visit interesting places,; and new friendships and memories. (Note that the position is not paid). UW students can earn up to five course credits for serving as Peer Facilitator, or may serve as official UW volunteers if not enrolled in summer courses. Students who are willing to drive a UW minivan and have had their US drivers license for at least two years will be preferred.
If interested in the position, please email your resume to Megan Horst at horstm at uw.edu ASAP. Include in the email your interest, your relevant knowledge and experience, and your availability. Please address questions to the same email.
