Celebrate National Medical Librarians Month
Kick off National Medical Librarians Month using the 2022 theme: Make Better Decisions Faster: Consult Your Health Information Professional. The work of medical librarians should be recognized throughout the year, but October is our official month of observance and celebration. Be sure to take some time, especially in October, to illustrate to those in your institution your value and the positive impact of having a health sciences information professional on staff. Visit the Medical Library Association webpage for messages and downloadable graphics<https://www.mlanet.org/p/cm/ld/fid=320>.
October is Health Literacy Month and Food Safety Month
Health literacy is all about making health information findable, understandable, and usable. The CDC has a summary of some important research regarding food literacy<https://www.cdc.gov/healthliteracy/researchevaluate/food-literacy.html> including food safety. One piece of health information that people often look for when making dining decisions is a restaurant’s inspection score. Regulations on where to post inspection scores—at the restaurant, online, both, or not at all—can vary by state, city, or county.
