This 2.5 hour event will acknowledge the 50th anniversary of the end of the United States Public Health Service Study of Untreated Syphilis in the Negro Male at Tuskegee and Macon County, Alabama, 1932 -1972. The intention is to create a space for authentic, accurate storytelling and discussion regarding current and future opportunities for public health leaders at CDC and beyond to move from trust to trustworthiness. National Rural Health Day, November 17
Research published by the Rural and Minority Health Research Center<https://www.ruralhealthresearch.org/projects/100002328> shows that rural racial and ethnic minorities have higher rates of poverty and obesity than rural white people. National Rural Health Day is an opportunity to explore ways health professionals, organizations, state and local government, and others can address these disparities and work toward achieving health equity. Native American Heritage Month
Native American Heritage Month celebrates the rich and diverse cultures, traditions, and history and acknowledges the important contributions of American Indians and Alaska Natives in the United States, including their work in public health. It's also a time to raise awareness about health disparities impacting the American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) community and highlighting policies, programs, and practices aimed at advancing health equity for AI/AN populations. National Diabetes Month
This year's theme is Diabetes Management: It Takes a Team, focusing on helping you manage your diabetes by building your health care team. According to the American Diabetes Association<https://diabetes.org/about-us/statistics/about-diabetes>, 14.5 percent of American Indian/Alaskan Native people, 12.1 percent of Black people, 11.8 percent of Hispanic/Latino people, and 9.5 percent of Asian people have been diagnosed with diabetes, in comparison to 7.4 percent of white people. Below are some resources for your organization to help bring awareness and information to your communities.
