Applications will be open until Thursday, December 26, 2024 at 11:59 pm PT, and applicants will be notified by January 10, 2025 at the latest. To learn more about upcoming reading projects and apply, go to sites.uw.edu/wdrp/applications. We encourage applications from students of all mathematical / personal backgrounds and identities, and we have projects for students with various levels of experience - the main requirement is for participants to be excited about mathematics. The main components of the program are: * Start-of-quarter kickoff event, including an introduction to the program and time to mingle with other undergraduate and graduate students. * One-on-one weekly meetings between undergraduate student mentees and graduate student mentors, to discuss the readings. * Mid-quarter event with undergraduate students only, to connect with students working on other projects. * WDRP seminars featuring math talks by graduate mentors, informal Q&A and mingling sessions. * End-of-quarter presentations by undergraduate students on topics selected from their readings. In addition, 2 credits (CR/NC) for Math 398 are available to undergraduate students participating in and successfully completing the program. Note that you will not be able to sign up for this credit until after you have applied for and been accepted into the program, at which time we will provide further information about enrolling. For more information, please check our FAQ page. Feel free to ask any other questions by sending an email to wdrp@uw.edu. STAT 498:Agile Data Science Message-ID: Hello Math & ACMS Majors, The Department of Statistics has asked our office to share a winter 2025 STAT special topics course with our majors. To learn more about the course, see the attached course syllabus and information below. IMPORTANT ADVISNG NOTE: Special Topics STAT 498, cannot be used in place of or substitute required coursework for the Math or ACMS major. We have plenty of space in STAT 498C Agile Data Science and the course may be of interest to Math and ACMS students. The course has no major restrictions, and attached please find the course syllabus. STAT 498C Sln 20767 TTh 4:30 to 5:50 ARC 160 Course Description: Agile Data Science adapts the tools and processes of Agile Software Development. Students will learn those tools and processes in a project-based environment which will reward collaboration in small groups working toward a final data science deliverable. The project may be an analysis, a dashboard, or a competitive predictive model; suggested projects will be provided but students may propose their own. Class sessions will be a mix of lectures and active group work. The goal of the course is for students to become skilled in the collaborative and iterative nature of data science, emphasizing that these skills are best developed through hands-on practice. Thanks for sharing this with your students!
