Hello Math Majors,

Below you will find important and helpful information about graduating senior priority and autumn quarter course offerings.

Autumn quarter Graduating Senior Priority(GSP) registration begins Friday, May 5.  If you have not yet applied for graduation, and plan to graduate this coming summer, autumn or winter quarter, visit math.washington.edu/graduation-commencement-information<https://math.washington.edu/graduation-commencement-information>. To have GSP for autumn quarter, eligible students must email their graduation application request to our office no later than 4pm, Monday, May 1, 2023.

IMPORTANT REGISTRATION INFORMATION

MATH 327 – Intro to Real Analysis is recommended for students who plan to take advanced math courses; prerequisite: MATH 300 with a 2.0 or higher grade.

MATH  342 – Art of Problem Solving: Explores the artful side of problem-solving, with examples from various fields across mathematics, including combinatorics, number theory, algebra, geometry, probability, and analysis. Pending Time Schedule Change: from W/F to TU/TH 3:30-4:50PM.

MATH 381 - Discrete Mathematical Modeling

Period I                ACMS majors only; Seniors, Juniors only
Period II & III       MATH & ACMS majors only; Seniors, Juniors only

MATH 407* - Linear Optimization: Enrollment will be split between Math and ACMS majors and will likely fill with graduating seniors. All sections will be open to both MATH and ACMS majors ~ 9am MAY 17.

Math 407 A - MATH majors only period 1
Math 407 B - ACMS majors only period 1
Math 407 C - ACMS majors only period 1
Math 407 D - MATH majors only period 1

*MATH 407 will only be open to seniors during registration period II & III.

MATH 408/409 – Nonlinear/Discrete Optimization: Courses will be offered winter and spring quarter, respectively

MATH 408 will be offered winter quarter; prerequisite: minimum grade of 2.0 in MATH 407 or MATH 464, and MATH 327 or MATH 334.
MATH 409 will be offered spring quarter; prerequisite: minimum grade of 2.0 in MATH 407, and MATH 300 or MATH 334

MATH 461 - Combinatorial Theory

Section A:  ACMS majors during period I; opens to Math majors ~ 9am MAY 17
Section B:  Math majors during period I; opens to ACMS majors ~ 9am MAY 17

MATH 464/465 -Numerical Analysis:  the two-quarter sequence is offered every other.

464 will be offered autumn and spring quarter
465 will not be offered during the 2023-2024 academic year.

MATH 491/493 - Stochastic Processes/Calculus for Option Pricing

      491 will be offered winter quarter
      492 will not be offered during the 2023-2024 academic year
      493 will be offered spring quarter
