SciPhD Career Development Workshop

With an increasing number of available jobs shifting from academia to
industry settings, understanding the skills necessary to compete for and
succeed in an industry position is critical. This four-part workshop will
provide you with interactive experiences and guidance as you prepare to
move beyond academia and pursue your career, and an opportunity to network
with local industry!

*Who should attend? *This workshop series is for graduate students,
doctoral candidates and post-docs looking for professional guidance as they
pursue their careers. Participants may still be enrolled in their
professional programs or recent graduates.

*Date and Format: *The entire virtual workshop will take place over the
course of *four half-day sessions over 2 weeks starting May 23*, and
includes several virtual networking opportunities with representatives from
sponsor companies throughout the program. Students are expected to attend
the majority of sessions. If your schedule conflicts with the workshop
schedule, please notify Aylin Kim, aylin at lswinstitute.org, for arrangements
to be made.

*Registration: *There is *no cost* to participate in the workshop due to
the generous support of Bristol Myers Squibb, but registration is required
to receive course materials. As part of your registration, you will also
receive access to Flamingo, the virtual career coach, to help guide you
through the job search process.

Husky Hackathon on May 13th - 15th

The Foster Technology Club has its third annual Husky Hackathon May 13th -
15th. The theme of this year's Hackathon is *Green Logistics*.

The Hackathon will be an exciting 48 hours of building prototypes,
presenting to investors, and creating businesses. Through this hackathon,
teams will experience the entire life cycle of building a product. Leaders
and mentors from top technology companies in Seattle will be available to
engage and support teams, and a group of leading VC’s will ultimately judge
the final presentations. The hackathon is open to students across all
schools at the UW, so it should be a great opportunity to network with a
new group of students, as well as leaders at some of Seattle’s leading
companies.

Participants will also have access to exclusive immersive workshops
conducted by industry experts so that everyone can learn from this
cross-functional experience. Cash prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, and
3rd place teams (last year’s total prize money was $12.5K)!

*Registration URL and event details: To be released soon.*

Please see the attached student flyer. If you have any questions or need
additional information, please reach out to Nilisha Soni at ns77 at uw.edu .

Have a Great Day,

Anthony
