Violet Zuvela Primary Care IM Scholarship Awards
[cid:image008.jpg at 01DA506E.D1F3C750]Congratulations to the 2023 recipients of the Violet Zuvela Primary Care IM Scholarship awards, Antonio Guadamuz and Maggie Wilkins. The Violet Zuvela Primary Care IM Scholarship award was created in 2017 by the generosity of the late Violet Zuvela, who was a patient of Dr. Douglas Paauw, former director of Medicine Student Programs (MSP).
The Zuvela Fund serves as a deeply meaningful tribute to Violet, while at the same time, provides a scholarship in the amount of $1500 for students with a career interest in primary care internal medicine whose work exemplifies the value of patient-centered care.
Well-being news
DOM Reconnection, with birds!
Join your colleagues for a morning of birding in the Union Bay Natural Area (UBNA). Led by birders in the department, this recurring (monthly) event is open to all students, staff and faculty in the DOM and guests as space allows.
[cid:image010.jpg at 01DA506E.D1F3C750]
Meeting on Saturday morning, the bird-curious, novice birders and nature lovers will join experienced birders for a 3-hour introduction to birding in the Union Bay Nature Area of the UW, northeast of Husky Stadium.
With over 200 species identified there, the UBNA is a premier birding hotspot in King County that can be birded all year round, with the kinds of birds seen varying by the season. Birding is a slow-paced activity that allows ample time for group members to get to know each other. Birding has proven to be an excellent activity for stress reduction and facilitating mindful practice. Our inaugural outing will be Saturday, Feb. 10. A limited number of binoculars will be available for those who do not have their own. Contact Mark Tonelli<mailto:tonelli at uw.edu> with questions or to sign up.
