Awards
Gender Equity Awards
[cid:image005.jpg at 01DA6672.2B7FED80]Nominations open March 1 for the Department of Medicine Gender Equity Awards. Awards will be presented in two categories: Mentorship and Trailblazer.

The Mentorship Awards honor those who have encouraged and supported women and gender minorities in their academic and professional endeavors. The Trailblazer Awards honors those who have blazed a trail for women and gender minorities, served as a catalyst for change that enhances the success of women and gender minorities, and/or who have made noteworthy contributions to the department, school or larger community.

DEI news
Seeking new members for the DEI Council

As a member you will get to know DEI leaders from across the Department of Medicine, learn about ongoing efforts, and have the opportunity to support an equitable and inclusive environment in the department and the communities we serve.

The DEI Council is an inclusive group where everybody is welcome (staff, faculty and trainees). We have monthly Zoom-based meetings and you will also be invited to the annual retreat (in-person) which takes place in May/June.

Our latest faculty spotlight is on Dr. Meena Ramchandani, associate professor (Allergy and Infectious Diseases, an ID physician focused on STIs, HIV and vulnerable populations, and program director for the ID Fellowship Program.

Research news
New federal Cancer Screening Research Network
[cid:image013.jpg at 01DA6672.2B7FED80]Researchers at Fred Hutch are leading a new federal clinical trials consortium - the Cancer Screening Research Network<https://bit.ly/4bNt8n4> (CSRN) - to assess the effectiveness of tests that look for evidence of early-stage cancer in blood or other bodily fluids. The network was created by the National Cancer Institute to advance President Joe Biden's Cancer Moonshot by improving early detection of cancers.

Fred Hutch will lead the CSRN's Coordinating and Communication Center (CCC) and the Statistics and Data Management Center (SDMC) that will oversee cancer screening clinical trials enrolling diverse participants. The CCC will be co-led by Dr. Scott Ramsey, professor (General Internal Medicine), and DOM co-investigators include Drs. Rachel Issaka, associate professor (Gastroenterology) and Matthew Triplette, associate professor (Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine).

[cid:image015.jpg at 01DA6672.2B7FED80]Congratulations to Dr. Ahmad Kassar, postdoctoral scholar (Cardiology) who won the Western Atrial Fibrillation Symposium research competition for his work on left atrial function improving stroke prediction in atrial fibrillation. The Western Atrial Fibrillation Symposium is an internationally recognized meeting focused on improving outcomes worldwide.



Education news
Teaching Scholars Program
Applications are currently being accepted for the Center for Learning and Innovation in Medical Education (CLIME) Teaching Scholars Program, a professional development program for educators in the health professions who have a passion for teaching and a desire to become academic leaders. The ten-month certificate program consists of interactive learning sessions, scholarly projects, and a professional peer group. Applications are due March 1. Drs.
