Breast cancer research foundation grants
[cid:image007.jpg at 01DA1D58.5A031550]Several DOM researchers have received additional funding from the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) to continue ongoing studies. Dr. Nancy Davidson, professor (Hematology and Oncology) received another year of funding to research the expanded use of the targeted treatment known as PARP inhibitors. Currently, this type of therapy is highly effective in about 60% of BRCA mutation-driven breast cancers. Dr. Mary (Nora) Disis, professor (Medical Oncology) will continue work on a vaccine to address obesity. Inflammation of adipose tissue has been shown to be a risk factor for breast cancer in individuals with obesity. Dr. Mary-Claire King, professor (Medical Genetics) will continue her research projects focused on inherited breast cancer. Dr. Hannah Linden, professor (Medical Oncology) will continue to investigate whether a progesterone tracer known as FFNP-PET can be used as a better predictive marker of endocrine therapy's efficacy.

Highly cited researchers
Congratulations to those who have been selected as Highly Cited Researchers<https://bit.ly/3QYBkYq> from the Web of Science Group. Their work has been identified as being among the most valuable and significant in the field. Very few researchers earn this distinction - writing the greatest number of reports, officially designated by Essential Science Indicators (ESI) as Highly Cited Papers. In addition, these reports rank among the top 1% most cited works for their subject field and year of publication in the Web of Science, earning them the mark of exceptional impact.

Request for study participants: Medical error during training
DOM researchers are looking for participants for a qualitative research study investigating the role that medical error during training may play on professional identity. Prior studies have reported that self-perceived major medical errors are common among medical trainees. It has also been reported that the expectation of infallibility within medical culture leads to identity struggle in medical trainees as it conflicts with the trainees' understanding of their own humanity. Medical errors during training are therefore a fraught time for professional identity formation.

Eligible participants are those who self-identify as having been personally involved in a medical error at any point in their training (defined as "a preventable act of omission or commission in planning or execution that contributes or could contribute to an unintended result.") If eligible, you will be selected to complete a one-time hour-long interview exploring your memories, feelings and thoughts around the situation.

The information gathered throughout the process will be confidential and will not be shared with supervisors or administrators. The details of the medical error will not be the focus of the study and no verification or review will be done to determine whether the care was appropriate by medical standards.

Interested participants should complete this form<https://redcap.iths.org/surveys/?s=W8N7DY8NJK44XLA8>. If you have any questions, please contact the PI, Laura Granados<mailto:granal at uw.edu>, fellow (Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine). Other members of the research team include Drs. Nina Tan and Rosemary Adamson and Danae Dotolo.
