Subject: Spread the Word: WDRP Applications Deadline Extended
Dear all,
The WDRP undergraduate applications deadline for Fall 2024 has been extended to Friday, September 13. The graduate students have prepared amazing projects, but we are currently short of applicants to fill these projects as the undergraduate students have fewer opportunities to hear about the program in the summer.
Therefore, please help us spread the word to the undergrads! The program details can be found at https://sites.uw.edu/wdrp/applications/ and they can apply through https://forms.gle/48JVZ9CEZHWpkvBw9<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://forms.gle/48JVZ9CEZHWpkvBw9__;!!K-Hz7m0Vt54!ldreZDMGe-EpH7D-P0g08NpGcbfCj1hyl2S9bAzMVQn-Vy6hiOJibm0o90ALHpDUVUx7GI_Bs-emPuNZ0w$>.
Many thanks,
The WDRP Organizers

Subject: Spread the Word: Fall 2024 WDRP Undergrad Applications Now Open
Dear All,
Undergraduate student applications for the Fall 2024 edition of the Washington Directed Reading Program<https://sites.uw.edu/wdrp/> are now open! Thank you to everyone who has advertised to undergraduate students so far.
If you would please send the information at the end of this message, the attached flyer, or the link sites.uw.edu/wdrp/applications<http://sites.uw.edu/wdrp/applications> to any students that you believe would benefit from this program, we would very much appreciate that!
We encourage applications from students of all mathematical / personal backgrounds and identities. We have projects for students with various levels of experience - the main requirement is for participants to be excited about mathematics.
Best wishes,
The WDRP Committee

Dear student interested in mathematics,
The Washington Directed Reading Program (WDRP) from the Mathematics Department pairs interested undergraduate students with graduate student mentors to embark on a quarter-long independent mathematics reading project.
Applications will be open until Friday, September 6 at 11:59 pm PT, and applicants will be notified by September 25 at the latest. To learn more about upcoming reading projects and apply, go to sites.uw.edu/wdrp/applications<http://sites.uw.edu/wdrp/applications>.
We encourage applications from students of all mathematical / personal backgrounds and identities, and we have projects for students with various levels of experience - the main requirement is for participants to be excited about mathematics.
The main components of the program are:
* Start-of-quarter kickoff event, including an introduction to the program and time to mingle with other undergraduate and graduate students.
* One-on-one weekly meetings between undergraduate student mentees and graduate student mentors, to discuss the readings.
* Mid-quarter event with undergraduate students only, to connect with students working on other projects.
* WDRP seminars featuring math talks by graduate mentors, informal Q&A and mingling sessions.
* End-of-quarter presentations by undergraduate students on topics selected from their readings.
In addition, 2 credits (CR/NC) for Math 398 are available to undergraduate students participating in and successfully completing the program. Note that you will not be able to sign up for this credit until after you have applied for and been accepted into the program, at which time we will provide further information about enrolling.
