Dear Math and ACMS Majors:

Many people think that math is a solitary activity but in fact much of mathematics is done through collaboration and discussion with other mathematicians.  Even if you’ve always studied alone, you may find it helpful to form study groups and talk through the material you’re encountering in your upper-division courses.

With that in mind, the Math Department is pleased to announce the continuation of the Math Major Study Hall in Spring 2023.  The MMSH will include in-person hours in the Math Library (PDL C-306) and its own discord server.

The following in-person hours will start Monday, April 3, in the Math Library:
Mondays, 2-4 pm
Wednesdays, 1-3 pm
Thursdays, 2-3 pm
Fridays, 1:30-3:30 pm

Graduate TAs Sam Lindbloom-Airey and Nelson Niu will be on hand during in-person hours to chat and give some mathematical guidance.  They will also be monitoring the MMSH discord server regularly.  

Even when Sam and Nelson aren’t around, we encourage our majors to utilize the Math Library in PDL C-306 as a place to study, alone or in groups, and participate in the culture of the math department.
